If you’re here for the summer of fútbol, welcome! If you’ve lived here for years and ended up on a dispensary blog looking for fun ways to experience this historic sporting event, we’re glad you’re here too!

Like everyone else in KC, we’re excited – so we created a traveler’s mini guide to Kansas City, according to the people who live and like it here.

We asked our staff: If a friend was visiting Kansas City for the first time, where would you send them?

The results were highly scientific, debatable, and completely biased, all great for pairing with a pre-game pre-roll or edible.

Let’s go!

The Official Unofficial Favorites

Best Places to Watch a Match

They will be everywhere, but for the true blue soccer fans, our team recommends:

Ticketed events include the Current Landing Watch Party, Soccer Capital Summer at Sporting Park, and the FIFA Fan Festival at the National WW1 Museum & Memorial.

Best BBQ (According to Key)

And now, for KC’S most significant cultural output (besides the romance of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelcee): barbeque. Tough to pick, but we did our level best. Our favorites:

  • Wolfpack BBQ: A favorite among us KC Northlanders.
  • Joe’s Kansas City: Pulled pork and burnt ends, located in a gas station, worth standing in line.
  • LC’s Bar-B-Q: No frills, old school, best burnt ends, beloved by us AND Anthony Bourdain

Honorable mentions include: Arthur Bryant’s for a legacy pick, Q39 for competition-style BBQ, Slap’s for the brisket.

And if you arrive extra hungry, we’re certainly not here to judge your pre-BBQ activities (just supply them).

One Thing Every Visitor Should Do

Our Midwestern city has more going on than you might expect! From beautiful parks to an active  arts district, there are a lot of great (free!) places to enjoy between matches.

Top recommendations:

  • The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art: World-class art, free admission, and a beautiful lawn to relax on and enjoy some puzzling but beloved contemporary sculpture.
  • City Market: A historic, open-air farmers’ market on the weekends with good coffee, food and people watching. It’s a short streetcar ride from downtown and to the Berkley Riverfront Path and Curren Stadium.
  • Crossroads Night Market: A neighborhood festival in the Crossroads Art District with open art galleries, food trucks, and live music every Friday, Saturday and Sunday evening. We’ll be there on the First Fridays of the month at Gold Gods – come say hi!

More: The National WWI Museum & Memorial, The Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, English Landing Park, Loose Park.

Smoke-Friendly Local Favorites

When we asked for smoke-friendly spots, the answers got a little more creative:

  • The Tree Room
  • X-Roads Rally

And at least one person honestly answered:

“I smoke at home.”

We can help with that too!

A Note on Enjoying Cannabis in Kansas City

Missouri has legal recreational cannabis for adults 21 and older (so bring your ID). Important to know: our fair city sits on the border of Missouri/Kansas. Cannabis is still illegal in the state of Kansas, so you can only legally buy and consume on the Missouri side. In Missouri, you can’t consume in public, in your car, or inside venues that prohibit it. Save it for private spaces!

And if you’ve never been inside a dispensary before, here’s a quick guide. Or swing by, our budtenders are ready to answer questions! We also have drive through and pick up options if you want to just get in and out.

Come Say “High”

Key Cannabis has locations throughout Kansas City and the surrounding area.

Whether you’re visiting for a week or you’ve lived here your whole life, we’d love to help you find something that fits your plans.

And if you need another barbecue recommendation afterward, we’ve got plenty more opinions where those came from.
