It’s finally spring! Time to get outside, make summer plans, move your body, clean something or many somethings, or just hang out on a porch and feel genuinely good: cannabis goes with all of that. The question is which kind?

The way many people pick a strain (ask “indica or sativa?” or “highest THC” ) isn’t a bad instinct; it’s just missing some info. Many indica-labeled strains are surprisingly uplifting. A lot of sativas can put you fully in your head if the terpene profile leans heavy.

What actually helps predict the experience is the terpene profile – the aromatic compounds that give each strain its smell, its flavor, and a meaningful part of its effect.

Now. Here’s how to use that info to help you enjoy the rest of your spring and get ready for summer.

Energized & Motivated

The mood: You have things to do. House projects. Yard work. That pile of stuff you said you’d deal with in March. You want to feel engaged, not distracted, capable and a little bit enthusiastic about the task in front of you, even if it’s typically a little boring. Looking at you, yard work.

What to look for: Terpinolene, d-Limonene, alpha-Pinene, Ocimene. Fresh, citrusy, clean-smelling strains. These terpene profiles support alert, forward-moving energy without the racing thoughts that can come from high-THC strains that don’t have this kind of terpene complexity.

Strains to try:

Citradelic Sunset (Sativa — Terpinolene, beta-Myrcene, Ocimene) Uplifting without being wired. Bright, warm, forward-moving — the name pretty much tells you. If you do one thing this spring, make it this one. (If you want to know more, you can deep dive here.)

Lemon G (Sativa — Terpinolene, beta-Myrcene, alpha-Pinene) Good for physical tasks that require actual attention — yard work, a long bike ride, anything where you want your mind present and your body moving.

Headband Cookies (Sativa — beta-Caryophyllene, beta-Myrcene, d-Limonene) For people who love the idea of an energetic sativa but have had bad experiences with racey highs. More balanced than the label suggests.

Love Island (Sativa — d-Limonene, beta-Caryophyllene, Terpinolene) Uplifting, grounded, and motivating all at once. This is a good put-the-phone-away, let’s-actually-finish-the-thing strain.

Social & Giggly

The mood: Plans with people. A backyard hang, easy conversation.

What to look for: d-Limonene, beta-Caryophyllene, Terpinolene. Uplifting + grounding is the combo here, you want mood elevation without the internal monologue that can make social situations feel weird.

Strains to try:

Cali Sunset Rosé (Hybrid — beta-Myrcene, d-Limonene, beta-Caryophyllene) Relaxed but sociable. You’re present without overthinking. It goes with almost everything.

Super Boof (Hybrid — beta-Caryophyllene, d-Limonene, beta-Myrcene) Grounding and social rather than spacey-euphoric. Good for a longer hang.

Grease Monkey (Hybrid — beta-Caryophyllene, d-Limonene, Nerolidol) Slightly more settling than the others. Good for evenings that lean more chill than rowdy.

Focused & Steady

The mood: You want to settle into something. Plan your summer. Journal. Work on a creative project. Be in your own head in a good way.

What to look for: A balanced hybrid with beta-Caryophyllene and some Pinene presence. You want the grounding without the heaviness, and the clarity without the stimulation.

Strains to try:

Headband Cookies (Sativa — beta-Caryophyllene, beta-Myrcene, d-Limonene) Double-duty strain. The alpha-Pinene in its profile supports mental clarity and focus in a way that works well for task-oriented sessions. Less racey than a pure limonene-forward sativa, more alert than a myrcene-heavy hybrid.

Planet of the Grapes (Hybrid — beta-Myrcene, beta-Caryophyllene, alpha-Humulene) The alpha-Humulene here is notable — it’s a calming, grounding terpene that doesn’t sedate so much as it settles. This strain has a deliberate, thoughtful quality to it. Good for the kind of focus where you want to slow down, not speed up.

Relaxed & Present

The mood: You’ve been outside all day. You did the things. Now you want to sit somewhere comfortable and let time pass without filling it. Not asleep. Just settled.

What to look for: Indica-leaning profiles with beta-Myrcene, Linalool, Nerolidol, or alpha-Humulene. These are the terpenes that work on the body and ease the mind without the full lights-out effect. The distinction between “relaxed” and “sedated” is usually in the dose and the specific terpene combination — indica-leaning doesn’t have to mean unconscious.

Strains to try:

Vegas Bomb (Indica — d-Limonene, beta-Caryophyllene, Linalool) The porch strain. Relaxed, warm, present. You’re not going anywhere, and that’s the point!

Strawberry Guava (Indica — beta-Caryophyllene, d-Limonene, alpha-Pinene) A surprising wind-down entry, alert enough that you can still watch something or have a conversation. Good for decompressing without fully checking out.

Black Maple (Indica — beta-Caryophyllene, d-Limonene, Linalool) — For the nights when the goal really is to let go and do nothing. Full rest.

Grandpa’s Stash (Indica — beta-Caryophyllene, alpha-Humulene, d-Limonene). Particularly good after a physical day with anti-inflammatory qualities alongside the calm (ours is also high THC). If you’ve been on your feet doing the spring work, this is the reward.

Active & Adventurous

The mood: You want to move. A workout, a bike ride, a hike, an afternoon exploring a part of the city you haven’t been to. You want cannabis to add to the experience, not slow it down.

What to look for: Energetic sativa-leaning profiles with Terpinolene, d-Limonene, or alpha-Pinene. Fresh, energetic-smelling strains are your best bet.

Strains to try:

Lemon G (Sativa — Terpinolene, beta-Myrcene, alpha-Pinene) Clarity and rhythm without heaviness. A personal favorite for anything that involves sustained movement.

Citradelic Sunset (Sativa — Terpinolene, beta-Myrcene, Ocimene) Light, bright, and forward-moving. This strain wants you to go outside.

Love Island (Sativa — d-Limonene, beta-Caryophyllene, Terpinolene) Good for social-physical activities — a group hike, a bike ride with friends, a soccer game in the park.
